Today Wyatt and I took a walk to visit our local library like we do almost every week. Now I have been looking for books to read about potty training and I haven't found them until today.
(and NO, I am not potty training him yet. Not at least for maybe 3 or 4 months but I know if you read books about it to them and TALK to them about it that its a lot easier for them when it comes time to actually doing it. Okay so… DON’T FREAK OUT!)
I get that they are not suppose to be all cutesy but when I opened one of them I swear my face turned bright red and I could feel the floor falling underneath my feet.
“OMG… CAN THEY SHOW A PICTURE OF A WEE WEE IN A CHILDS BOOK?!”- It was animated but still… I ABOUT DIED.
I was thinking to my self “How am I supposed to keep a straight face when I read this to Wyatt”? Am I suppose to point to the “wee wee” and say “Hey son, this is where your Pee Pee comes out of and its called your Wee Wee.”
I told Cody before we ever had Wyatt that I didn’t think I would ever want girls because of how much DRAMA they are but in this case I think I would rather potty train them then a boy.
How am I supposed to POTTY TRAIN A BOY!!!?? It seems so much more complicated than a girl. They have to learn to sit and “poo poo” and stand and “pee pee” do they hold their “wee wee” when they stand and am I suppose to teach them that?

Thank god I have given my self MONTHS to figure this whole potty training thing out. gees… I guess I need to start preparing myself now to talk to him about the “birds and the bees.”
Ugh… and I call myself OPEN MINDED.

Well, you sort of asked for advice so I'm going to share mine lol.
ReplyDeleteWhen they are young you sit them on the potty to pee and poo, no standing up, you use the pee guard so it doesn't spray everywhere when they sit. :D You will know when he is ready to stand at the potty!
And the picture has to show a penis so the little boy reading will think, "Oh that looks like me! Oh, so that's what I do with it!"
Just present it all factually when talking about his body parts. The kid won't see it as a dirty/naughty thing unless you make it out to be that way. I remember being in preschool and boys and girls used the same bathroom area and it was never weird to me lol.
Its not that I think its dirty or naughty it was more of just the whole shock of it. I wasnt expecting it i guess i didnt prepare my self for that. its just weird to think that its gonna be me his MOM who talks about all that kinda stuff with him... its gonna be strange.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember potty training, but I remember the sex talk when I was like 6 or 7. I was so curious about everything and asked a million questions.
ReplyDeleteMy mom got a few books from the library, but she didn't read them ahead of time. When we were going through one of them (books aimed at kids) it started to describe *the FEELING of sex* she stopped mid-sentence and was like, "ok we aren't going to keep reading this one." And I was thinking, "WHY NOT, COME ON MOM, I WANNA READ IT!!" haha I don't think she was prepared to read THAT. :D
Well now Wyatt can’t get enough of that book. I read it 4 or 5 times a day so I have gotten use to it and I actually think it is a very good book. He seems to be understanding what its talking about which is good.
